Lap Cloth

1910 New Catholic Dictionary

(Latin: gremium, lap)

A silken apron, trimmed with silk embroidery, of the color of the day laid upon the bishop's lap when he sits during a pontifical Mass. A linen gremial is used when conferring sacred orders.
