Jesus Psalter, the

1910 New Catholic Dictionary

A devotional book, dear to the forefathers of the English Catholics in the days of persecution, written by Richard Whitford, the Brigittine monk who called himself the "Wretch of Sion." It included 150 invocations of the Name of Jesus, interspersed with verses in imitation of the Psalms. It was printed and sold separately as early as 1520, though no copy exists. The devotion seems never to have spread beyond English-speaking countries and was never indulgenced.
