Catholicism is the majority religion of the island, which comprises the Vicariate Apostolic of Guam, erected March 1, 1911, and entrusted to the Order of Friars Minor Capuchins. It was elevated to the diocese of Agaña on October 14, 1965, and then to the archdiocese of Agaña on November 8, 1984.
