1910 New Catholic Dictionary

(1814-1873) Statesman, born Saint Antoine, Canada; died London. He was Attorney-General of Lower Canada in 1856,1857, 1858, and 1864, as well as Premier of Canada in 1858 and minister of militia in 1867. Several important measures were due to his influence, and he secured for his native province a degree of autonomy and parliamentary representation proportionate to its historical and political importance.
