Galveston, Texas, Diocese of
1910 New Catholic Dictionary
Covers 9,354 square miles of southeastern Texas. Established as the prefecture apostolic of Texas in 1839. Elevated to a vicariate apostolic on July 10, 1841. Elevated to the diocese of Galveston on May 4, May 4, 1847 as a suffragan of New Orleans. Its name was changed to the diocese of Galveston-Houston on July 25, 1959. Elevated to an archdiocese on December 29, 2004. Suffragen dioceses include
