Faith, Defender of the
1910 New Catholic Dictionary
A title conferred on Henry VIII by Pope Leo X for his book "Assertio Septem Sacramentorum," which was a defense of the sacraments and the Sacrifice of the Mass against Luther. The kings of England still retain it on their coinage and among their official titles.
