Egloffstein, Frederick von
1910 New Catholic Dictionary
Engraver, born Altdorf, near Nuremberg, Bavaria, 1824; died New York, New York, 1885. He has been called the father of half-tone engraving in the United States, and he endeavored to have the government apply his process to the engraving of bank notes and thus circumvent counterfeiting. He was commissioned a colonel in the Union army during the Civil War.
