Coadjutor of the Bishop

1910 New Catholic Dictionary

A bishop deputed by the Holy See to assist the diocesan bishop either in the administration of the diocese or pontifical functions. The powers of coadjutors depend on the Apostolic letters of appointment and secondly on the condition of the bishop assisted. As a rule the coadjutor has the right of succession to the episcopal see.
