Baldwin of Canterbury

1910 New Catholic Dictionary

(died 1190) Archbishop, born probably near Exeter, England; died Acre, Palestine. He was abbot of the Cistercian Abbey of Ford, in Devonshire. Consecrated Bishop of Worcester, he was elected Archbishop of Canterbury, 1180. He preached the Third Crusade, and set out for the Holy Land, 1190. While there he acted as vice-regent of the patriarch. He died during the siege of Acre.
