Scorn, Scornful
Holman Bible Dictionary
Dislike which turns to contempt and derision. Scorn often appears in some Bible translations where scoff appears in others. See 2 Kings 19:21; 2 Chronicles 30:10 ). In deep trouble psalmists often felt themselves scorned (Psalm 22:6; Psalm 31:11; Psalm 39:8; Psalm 44:13; Psalm 80:6; Psalm 89:41; Psalm 119:22; Psalm 123:4 ). God scorns the wicked (Proverbs 3:34 ), who, in turn, scorn Him (2 Samuel 12:14 ). When His people refuse to be faithful, God can scorn them and their worship, expressed in destruction (Lamentations 2:7 ).
