Holman Bible Dictionary
1. Dark-colored, viscous mixture of hydrocarbons used for waterproofing sailing vessels (Genesis 6:14; compare Exodus 2:3 ). Mineral pitch occurs naturally and is highly flammable (Isaiah 34:9 ). 2 . KJV used pitch as a verb meaning, “to coat or cover with pitch” (Genesis 6:14 ).
