Phinehas
Holman Bible Dictionary
(fihn' ih huhss) Personal name meaning “dark-skinned” or “mouth of brass.” 1. Grandson of Aaron and high priest who, on several occasions, aided Moses and Joshua. See 1 Samuel 2:22 ) and led the people to follow. He and Hophni died in a battle with the Philistines while attempting to keep the ark from being captured (1 Samuel 4:11 ). When his pregnant wife heard of his death, she immediately delivered, naming the child Ichabod (“the glory has departed”).
