(pee' thawr) Place name meaning, “soothsayer.” City in upper Mesopotamia identified with tell Ahmar, twelve miles south of Carchemish near the confluence of the Sajur and Euphrates rivers. Home of Balaam (Numbers 22:5; Deuteronomy 23:4 ).
