Neck
Holman Bible Dictionary
Portion of the body connecting the head to the torso. To put one's feet on the neck of an enemy is a sign of complete victory (Joshua 10:24 ). A yoke placed on the neck is a frequent emblem of servitude (Genesis 27:40; Deuteronomy 28:48; Isaiah 10:27 ). To fall upon someone's neck with weeping or kissing is a special sign of tenderness (Genesis 33:4; Genesis 45:14; compare Luke 15:20 ). To be stiff-necked or to harden one's neck is a common picture of stubborn disobedience (Exodus 32:9; Exodus 33:3 ,Exodus 33:3,33:5 ).
