Meadow

Holman Bible Dictionary

Tract of grassland, especially moist, low-lying pasture. The KJV used meadow at two passages. At Genesis 41:2 ,Genesis 41:2,41:18 , the reference is clearly to stretches of reed grass or papyrus thickets common along the Nile. The term rendered meadow in the phrase “meadows of Geba” (Judges 20:33 , KJV) is obscure. The NAS simply transliterates the phrase (Maareh-geba). In modern translations rich meadows illustrate God's blessing (Psalm 65:13 , NAS, NIV, NRSV; Isaiah 30:23; Isaiah 44:4 , NIV). Meadows are also used in pictures of God's judgment (Jeremiah 25:37; Hosea 4:16 , NIV; Hosea 9:13 , NAS; Zephaniah 2:6 , NRSV).
