Lily

Holman Bible Dictionary

In biblical usage, any of a number of distinctive flowers ranging from the lotus of the Nile (1 Kings 7:19 ) to wild field flowers in Palestine (Matthew 6:28 ). The lily was the inspiration for the rim of the molten sea in the Temple in Jerusalem (1 Kings 7:26; compare 1Kings 7:19,1 Kings 7:22 ). The Song of Solomon uses it to beautify the writer's description of love (1 Kings 2:1; 1 Kings 4:5 ). See Flowers in the Bible.
