Holman Bible Dictionary
Bird of prey, best described as a scavenger of the accipitridae family (hawk), the subfamily of milvinae of the genus milvus. Medium sized with red coloring. Found in the Bible at Leviticus 11:14; Deuteronomy 14:13; Isaiah 34:15 . This bird was considered unclean and not for human consumption (Leviticus 11:14 ). See Birds .
