Holman Bible Dictionary
(joh' bab) Personal name perhaps meaning, “wilderness” or “arm oneself for battle.” 1. Son of Joktan in Table of Nations lineage of Noah's son Shem (Genesis 10:29 ). He was thus the original ancestor of a Semite tribe, probably in southern Arabia. 2. Early king of Edom centered in Bozrah (Genesis 36:33 ). 3 . King of city state of Madon who joined Jabin of Hazor in northern coalition against Joshua (Joshua 11:1 ). 4 . Two members of tribe of Benjamin (1Chronicles 8:9,1 Chronicles 8:18 ).
