Jerahmeel
Holman Bible Dictionary
(jih rah' mee ehl) Personal name meaning, “God shows compassion.” 1. Son of Hezron (1 Chronicles 2:9 ), brother of Caleb (1 Chronicles 2:42 ), and original clan ancestor of Jerahmeelites (1 Samuel 27:10 ). See Jerahmeelites. 2. Son of Hammelech (Hebrew, “the king” and so translated by modern versions), who was one of a group whom King Jehoiakim sent to arrest Baruch and Jeremiah (Jeremiah 36:26 ); but the Lord showed He has more power than human rulers by hiding His faithful servants from the king. 3. A Levite in time of David (1 Chronicles 24:29 ).
