Holman Bible Dictionary
(hee' man) Personal name meaning, “faithful.” 1. In Genesis 36:22 , one of the sons of Lotan mentioned among the descendants of Esau. KJV renders the name Hemam . 2. In 1 Kings 4:31 , a notable sage to whose wisdom that of Solomon is compared. 3. In 1 Chronicles 6:33 , the son of Joel, a Kohathite. He was one of the Temple singers under David and Solomon. In 1 Chronicles 25:5 , he is called a seer. Elsewhere in that chapter he is said to have prophesied using musical instruments. He may be the same as the Heman mentioned in 1 Kings 4:31 . The psalm title attributes Psalm 88:1 to Heman.
