Holman Bible Dictionary
(hay' nuhn) Personal name meaning, “blessed” or “favored.” 1. King of Ammon whom David sought to honor and with whom he sought to renew the peace treaty. Hanun and his advisors misinterpreted David's act and treated David's messengers shamefully. David's military response brought victory over Ammon and Syria (2 Samuel 10:1 ). This set the stage for David's sinful relationship with Bathsheba. 2. Man who repaired the valley gate of Jerusalem under Nehemiah (Nehemiah 3:13 ). See Nehemiah 3:30 ).
