Cruse

Holman Bible Dictionary

An elongated pottery vessel about six inches tall used for holding liquids such as oil (1Kings 17:12,1Kings 17:14,1 Kings 17:16 ) or water (1 Kings 19:6 ). Modern readers would understand the vessels to serve the purpose of a modern canteen (1 Samuel 26:11-16 ). The bowl (2 Kings 2:20 NIV) reflects a different Hebrew term but a similar type vessel.
