Crown of Thorns
Holman Bible Dictionary
The crown made by the Roman soldiers to mock Jesus, the “King of the Jews” (Matthew 27:29; Mark 15:18; John 19:3; not mentioned in Luke). The identification of the plant used to plait this crown is unknown. Jesus used the imagery of “thorns” in his teaching in a negative sense (Matthew 7:16; Mark 4:7 ,Mark 4:7,4:18; see Hebrews 6:8 ). See Plants in the Bible. Copyright Statement
