Holman Bible Dictionary
Traditional translation of a Hebrew architectural term in 1 Kings 7:9 . The meaning of the Hebrew word is unknown. NIV, TEV reads “eaves.” Recent scholars see it as the “framework” meaning a row of stone or wood headers and stretchers above the various levels of the foundation on which bricks were laid. The Hebrew word also occurs in Exodus 25:25; Exodus 37:12; Isaiah 48:13 .
