Bezek

Holman Bible Dictionary

(bee' zehk) Place name meaning, “lightning.” Place where Judah and Simeon defeated Canaanites who were led by Adoni-bezek (literally, “lord of Bezek”) (Judges 1:4 ). In Bezek Saul numbered the Israelites to rally an army against Nahash the Ammonite and deliver Jabesh-gilead (1 Samuel 11:8 ). Bezek was located at khirbet Ibziq, twelve miles northeast of Shechem and thirteen miles from Jabesh-Gilead, six miles north of Tirzah, though the Judges' site may be a distinctive city. If so, it would be at tell Bezqah near Gezer.
