Beans
Holman Bible Dictionary
A leguminous plant (Faba vulgaris ,) grown in the ancient world as food. The beans mentioned in the Bible (2 Samuel 17:28; Ezekiel 4:9 ) were the horse or broad bean. These beans were sown in the autumn and harvested sometime in mid-April just before the barley and wheat. They were cooked green in the pods or were cooked after being dried. Dried beans were threshed and winnowed like other grains.
