Barak
Holman Bible Dictionary
(bay' rak) The son of Abinoam whom the prophetess Deborah summoned to assume military leadership of the Israelites in a campaign against Canaanite forces under the command of Sisera (Judges 4:6 ). Barak mustered Zebulunite and Naphtalite troops and set out to engage the Canaanites in battle near Mt. Tabor. Though the Canaanites were routed, Sisera escaped. He was subsequently killed by Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite. In 1 Samuel 12:11 , where he is called Bedan, Barak is mentioned as one who delivered the Israelites from their enemies. See Judges.
