Whale — "And God created great whales..." (Genesis 1:21 A.V.[15]) Hebrew Tânnîn - Strongs: H8577 can also be translated as "sea-monster"; porpoises and dugongs were also known to the Hebrews. In Matthew 12:40, Jesus compared his own burial to Jonah's entombment in the forestomach of a whale.[12]
