Cargo Mules and wranglers - Bright Angel Trail - Grand Canyon

I backpacked down the Bright Angel Trail to meet up with the AZRA trip at Pipe Creek Beach. These cargo mules are using the trail while the South Kaibab Trail is being re-engineered and rebuilt in 2009 and 2010. This mule took a liking to me. I suppose if his view is the north end of a south bound mule in front of him, I probably look pretty interesting. Everything that goes in or comes out of Phantom Ranch is packed by mule train.

Mule — In spite of the enactment of the Law (Leviticus 19:19), the Israelites early in the course of their history possessed mules; these animals, in a hilly region such as the Holy Land, were for many purposes preferable to horses and stronger than asses; they were employed both for domestic and warlike use.
