Comments: Oil jar, Egypt, 1580-1350 BCE. The tapered bases of oil jars such as this could be pushed into the ground to keep the jar upright. Their small size suggests they probably held expensive liquids. This example dates from between 1580 to 1350BCE. This period in Egyptian history is known as the New Kingdom.
