Psalms 25:1-22

Psalms 16:1-11; Psalms 17:1-15; Psalms 18:1-50; Psalms 19:1-14; Psalms 20:1-9; Psalms 21:1-13; Psalms 22:1-31; Psalms 23:1-6; Psalms 24:1-10 have in particular occupied us with Christ, the Messiah. Psalms 25:1-22 commences a new series (Psalms 25:1-22; Psalms 26:1-12; Psalms 27:1-14; Psalms 28:1-9; Psalms 29:1-11; Psalms 30:1-12; Psalms 31:1-24; Psalms 32:1-11; Psalms 33:1-22; Psalms 34:1-22; Psalms 35:1-28; Psalms 36:1-12; Psalms 37:1-40; Psalms 38:1-22; Psalms 39:1-13), concerned with "the remnant" and the faithful in general. We must bear in mind when reading the psalms that they are divided into groups and, characteristically, each group deals separately with a principal thought.

It helps us in Psalms 25:1-22 to notice two prayers: vv. 4-7 and 16-22. Let us especially take for ourselves the requests of vv. 4 and 5, ". . . Lead me in thy truth" (cf. Psalms 43:3). It was a matter of great joy for the Apostle John to find, in the family of "the elect lady", children walking in the truth (2 John 1:4).

But how are we to walk unless we know the way and the paths? God makes them known, and see how the soul progresses in them (vv. 8-10, 12). Nevertheless, one condition is laid down: "The secret of the LORD (His intimate communications) is with them that fear him" (vv. 12-14). In other words, God reveals His thoughts and gives understanding of His Word only to those who are ready to submit to them. That, no doubt, is why there is so much ignorance in Christendom . . . and often also in our own minds.
