II. [חָסַד] verb be reproached, ashamed (Aramaism, see RS Proph. iv, n. 9; Aramaic חֲסַד be put to shame,

shame, reproach, often in ᵑ7ᵐ5 for חֶרְמָּה); — only
Pi`el Imperfect מֶּןיְֿחַסֶּדְךָ Proverbs 25:10 lest he reproach thee, expose thee to shame.
חָסַד a root not used in Kal, to which is ascribed the sense of benignity, and also (by antiphrasis) that of reproach, disgrace. The primary signification appears to me to be that of eager and ardent desire by which any one is led, i.q. קָנָא, and then like קָנָא, it is applied
(1) to love, desire towards any one (see Hithpael and חֶסֶד No. 1 ).
(2) to emulation, envy (Arab. حَسَدَ to envy, حَسَدُ envy), whence odium and opprobrium (see חֶסֶד No. 2, and Piel).
Piel, to put to shame, or contempt, Proverbs 25:10. Syr. ܚܰܣܶܕ id., in Targ. חַסֵּד for the Heb. חֵרֵף to reproach, ܚܣܚܺܕܐܳ envied, also, beloved, see Kal.
Hithpael, to show one’s self gracious, Psalms 18:26 comp. Kal No. 1.
Derivatives, besides the words which follow, are חָסִיד, חֲסִידָה.
