רָצַץ fut. יָרוּץ, תָּרֻץ (for יָרֹץ), Isaiah 42:4; Ecclesiastes 12:6, compare אֲרוּצֵם Jeremiah 50:44 כתיב (Arab. رَضَّ) cogn. to רָעַע and רָעַץ.
(1) to break, to break in or down. Isaiah 42:3, קָנֶה רָצוּץ “a crushed reed,” das eingeknickte Rohr (Vulg. quassata). Isaiah 36:6; 2 Kings 18:21. It differs from שָׁבַר to break off, see Isaiah 42:3.-Intrans. to be broken, Ecc. loc. cit.
(2) figuratively, to oppress, to treat violently, often joined with עָשַׁק 1 Samuel 12:3, 1 Samuel 12:4; Amos 4:1; Isaiah 58:6; Deuteronomy 28:33.
Niphal נָרוֹץ pass. of Kal No. 1, Ecclesiastes 12:6; Ezekiel 29:7.
Piel רִצַּץ
(1) i.q. Kal No. 1, but more forcible, to break in pieces, Psalms 74:14.
(2) i.q. Kal No. 2, Job 20:19; 2 Chronicles 16:10.
Poel רוֹצֵץ i.q. Kal and Piel No. 2, Judges 10:8. But רוֹצֵץ Nahum 2:5, belongs to the root רוּץ to run.
Hiphil, fut. conv. וַתָּרִץ (so as to differ from וַתָּרֶץ to make to run), Judges 9:53, to break in pieces.
