Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition
גָּזָם m. a species of locust, so called from its eating off; like חָסִיל. Joel 1:4, 2:25 Amos 4:9 Targ. זָֽחֲלָא a creeping locust, without wings. Syriac ܡܫܳܘܽܛܐܳ, which Lexicographers explain, a locust without wings; comp. መሰጠ፡ to pull in pieces; مشط to comb, both from the idea of plucking. LXX. κάμπη. Vulg. eruca. [“See Credner on Joel loc. cit.”]
