 [בָּטָה, בָּטָא] verb speak rashly, thoughtlessly (Late Hebrew id., בטי) —

Qal Participle בּוֺטֶה Proverbs 12:18 one that babbleth (opposed to לְשׁוֺן חֲכָמִים).

Pi`el Imperfect יְבַטֵּא בִשְׁבוּעָה Leviticus 5:4 speak rashly, unadvisedly; so וַיְבַטֵּא בִשְׂפָתָיו (of Moses) Psalm 106:33; Infinitive לְבַטֵּא בִשְׂפָתַיִם Leviticus 5:4 (P).

Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

בָּטָה i.q. בָּדַד No. II. βαττολογεῖν, blaterare, to babble, to talk idly; fchwaßen, to talk rashly and inconsiderately, an onomatop. word, like the Greek and Latin. Part. בּוֹטֶה babbler, idle talker, Proverbs 12:18.

Piel, id. Leviticus 5:4; Psalms 106:33. In each of these places the addition of בִּשְׂפָתַיִם increases the force of this phrase, see שְׂפָתַיִם.
