Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

נָטַף fut. יִטֹּף to drop, to fall in drops, (Aram. and Arab. id.; Eth. ነጠበ፡; to drop; ነጠፊ፡ itself is to trickle through, which takes place in dropping. The primary syllable טף is onomatopoetic, like the Germ. and English, by insertion of r, to drop, tropfen). Metaph. used of speech, Job 29:22, “my speech dropped on them,” was pleasant to them, like rain; commonly with an acc. of the thing, to let anything fall in drops (compare נָזַל No. 1, הָלַךְ No. 4). Joel 4:18, יִטְּפוּ הֶהָרִים עָסִיס “the mountains shall drop down new wine.” Song of Solomon 5:5, 13 Judges 5:4. Figuratively, Song of Solomon 4:11, נֹפֶת תִּטֹּפְנָה שִׂפְתוֹתַיִךְ “thy lips drop honey,” Proverbs 5:3. In like manner in Arabic the idea of irrigating is applied to flowing and pleasant discourse; see روى and other synonymous verbs.

Hiphil, to cause to drop down, to drop (act.); with acc., Amos 9:13 specially speech, whence, the acc. being omitted, to speak, to prophesy, Micah 2:6, 11 Micah 2:11; Ezekiel 21:2, Ezekiel 21:7; Amos 7:16 compare נָבַע, נָבָא.
