נָהַם fut. יִנְהֹם
(1) to growl (knurren, brummen); the word used to express the noise uttered by the young lion (כְּפִיר), (Proverbs 19:12, 20:2 ); to be distinguished from roaring (שָׁאַג), although this word is also applied to a full-grown lion, Proverbs 28:15 (This root is onomatop. Arab. and Syr. id.; see under הָמָה ; and also compare נָאַם). It is applied to the roaring of the sea, Isaiah 5:30 to the voices of persons groaning (compare הָמָה), Ezekiel 24:23; Proverbs 5:11.
