[חָפַץ] verb bend down (Arabic lower, depress, as wings Qor 15:88) — only
Qal Imperfect יַחְמֹּץ זְנָבוֺ כְמוֺאֶֿרֶז Job 40:17; he bendeth down (extendeth down stiffly) his tail like a cedar, see Wetzst in De Job 526 Hi Hiob 299.
חָפֵץ fut. יַחְפֹּץ and יֶחְפַּץ
(1) i.q. Arabic حَفَض to bend, to curve. Job 40:17, יַחְפֹּץ זְנָבוֹ “he bends his tail.”
(2) intrans. and metaph. to incline, to be favourable.
(a) to do something; to will, to desire, absol. Song of Solomon 2:7, 3:5 followed by a gerund, Deuteronomy 25:8; Psalms 40:9; Job 9:3; 1 Samuel 2:25 by a naked infinitive Isaiah 53:10; Job 13:3, 33:32, חָפַצְתִּי צַדְּקֶךָּ “I desire thy justification.”
(b) towards some one, i.e. to favour him, to delight in him as in God, in men; to love some one, followed by בְּ Genesis 34:19; 2 Samuel 20:11; Numbers 14:8; 2 Samuel 22:20, 24:3 followed by an acc., Psalms 40:7; Micah 7:18. It is also applied to things, 2 Samuel 24:3.
חָפֵץ m. (with Tzere impure), [“pl. constr. חֲפֵצֵי, Psalms 35:27, 40:15 but חֶפְצֵיהֶם, Psalms 111:2.”] verbal adj. from the preceding; often used with personal pronouns instead of the verb, e.g. 1 Kings 21:6, אִם חָפֵץ אַתָּה “if thou art willing,” if it please thee. Malachi 3:1, אַתֶּם חֲפֵצִים “you wish for,” delight in, נֶפֶשׁ חֲפֵצָה a willing mind, 1 Chronicles 28:9.
