אוֹי (comp. אָוָה No.II).
(1) subst. lamentation; Proverbs 23:29, לְמִי אוֹי לְמִי אֲבוֹי “who hath lamentation, who hath misery?” [“want”].
(2) interj.
(a) of lamentation, alas! with a dat. 1 Samuel 4:8; Isaiah 3:9, 6:5 rarely with an acc. Ezekiel 24:6, Ezekiel 24:9 and absol. Numbers 24:23.
(b) of threatening and imprecating, Numbers 21:29. Cognate is הוֹי.
