Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

גַּאֲוָה f. pr. elevation (from גָּאָה), hence

(1) magnificence, majesty, as of God, Deuteronomy 33:26; Psalms 68:35.

(2) ornament, splendour (Pracht), Job 41:7; Deuteronomy 33:29.

(3) pride, arrogancy. Psalms 73:6, לָכֵן עֲנָקַתְמוֹ גַאֲוָה “therefore pride clothes their neck,” i.e. they are elated with pride. A stiff neck being regarded as the seat of pride. Pa. 31:24; Proverbs 14:3; Isaiah 9:8, 13:3, 11 Isaiah 13:11, 16:6 25:11. Used of the sea, Psalms 46:4, “the mountains quake at its pride.”
