מַלְאָךְ m. (from the root לָאַךְ to depute which see).

(1) one sent, a messenger, whether from a private person, Job 1:14, or of a king, 1 Samuel 16:19, 19:11, 14 1 Samuel 19:14, 20 1 Samuel 19:20; 1 Kings 19:2, etc. (Syr. ܡܰܠܰܟܳܐ, Arab. مَلْأكُ id.)

(2) a messenger of God, i.e.

(a) an angel, Exodus 23:20, 33:2 2 Samuel 24:16; Job 33:23 (see לוּץ ); Zechariah 1:9, seq.; 2:2, Zechariah 2:7, 4:1 seq.; more fully מַלְאַךְ יְיָ Genesis 16:7, 21:17 22:11, 15 Genesis 22:15; Numbers 22:22, seqq.; Judges 6:11, seqq.; Cf.
