Brown-Driver-Briggs Expanded Definition
מְאֹד noun masculine muchness, force, abundance, exceedingly (compare Assyrian mu'du, abundance, Hom ZMG 1878,711 ('treasures ana mu'di, in abundance') Dl HWB 399): —

1 force, might, Deuteronomy 6:5 וּבְכָלמְֿאֹדֶ֑ךָ and with all thy might; hence 2 Kings 23:25.

2 in different idioms (298t.) to express the idea of exceedingly, greatly, very (whether of magnitude or degree):

מְאֹד

(1) subst. m. strength, force, from the root אוּד No. 3. Deuteronomy 6:5, “and thou shalt love Jehovah thy God with all thy heart, with all thy mind, וּבְכֹל מְאֹדֶךָ and with all thy strength,” i.e. in the highest degree; 2 Kings 23:25 (compare Luke 10:27). Isaiah 47:9, בְּעָצְמַת חֲבָרַיִךְ מְאֹד “with (i.e. notwithstanding) the great might of thy sorceries,” where we must join עָצְמַת מְאֹד; Job 35:15. Hence

(a) בִּמְאֹד מְאֹד with force of force, i.e. most forcibly, most violently, Genesis 17:2, Genesis 17:6, 20 Genesis 17:20; Ezekiel 9:9.

(b) עַד מְאֹד even to force, i.e. in a very great degree; very, Genesis 27:33; 1 Kings 1:4; Daniel 8:8 quite, altogether, Psalms 119:8 too much, Isaiah 64:8.

(c) עַד לִמְאֹד, i.q. עַד מְאֹד but in the later Hebrew, 2 Chronicles 16:14.

(2) adv.

(a) very, exceedingly, greatly, added to adjectives and verbs, as טוֹב מְאֹד Genesis 1:31 מְאֹד יָפָה 12:14 הַרְבֵּה מְאֹד 15:1. Emphatically doubled מְאֹד מְאֹד Genesis 7:19; Numbers 14:7.- Psalms 46:2, עֶזְרָה בְעָרוֹת נִמְצָא מְאֹד “(he is) an aid in distresses to be found greatly,” i.e. he is found a strong aid.

(b) quickly, hastily, which is also connected with exertion of strength (compare Germ. bald, from the Lat. valde, and the Lower Germ. fwieth, Anglo-Sax. swithe, very, Germ. gefchwind), 1 Samuel 20:19, תֵּרֵד מְאֹד “go down quickly.” Vulg. festinus.
