Pi`el cause to lack, with accusative of person, Imperfect 2 masculine singular suffix וַתְּחַסְּרֵהוּ מעט מֵאֱלהים Psalm 8:6 and thou didst make him lack little of God; Participle וּמְחַסֵּר אתנֿפשׁי מִטּוֺבָה Ecclesiastes 4:8 for whom am I labouring and depriving myself of good things?
Hiph`il Perfect הֶחֱסִיר Exodus 16:18; Imperfect יַחְסִיר Isaiah 32:6; — cause to be lacking, fail, with accusative of thing ׳מַשְׁקֵה צָמֵא יַח Isaiah 32:6; the drink of the thirsty he causeth to fail ("" לְהָרִיק נפשׁ רָעֵב); absolute Exodus 16:18 (P), he that gathered little caused no lack.
חָסֵר fut. יֶחְסַר plur. יַחְסְרוּ [“to diminish, to cut short”]
(1) to be devoid of anything, to lack, to be without, followed by an acc. (like verbs of plenty and want), Deuteronomy 2:7, 8:9 Psalms 34:11; Proverbs 31:11. Genesis 18:28, אוּלַי יַחְסְרוּן חֲמִשִּׁים הַצַּדִּקִים חֲמִשָּׁה “perhaps five shall be lacking to the fifty righteous;” properly, “perhaps the fifty righteous shall lack five.”
(2) absol. to suffer want, Psalms 23:1; Proverbs 13:25.
(3) to fail, to be lessened, Genesis 8:3, 1 Kings 17:14.
(4) to be wanting, Ecclesiastes 9:8; Deuteronomy 15:8. (Arab. خَسَرَ and خَسِرَ to suffer harm or loss.)
Piel, to cause to want. Psalms 8:6, וַתְּחַסְּרֵהוּ מְעַט מֵאֱלֹהִים “thou hast made him to be wanting but a little of God;” that he should not be much lower than God; [but see the true meaning of this passage from the use made of it in Heb. ii. 7, 9]; followed by מִן of the thing, Ecclesiastes 4:8.
Hiphil
(1) causat. to make to fail (fehlen, mangeln laffen), Isaiah 32:6.
(2) intrans. to be in want, Exodus 16:18.
