Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

אָדַר a root not used in Kal, prob. to be wide, (see אֶדֶר, אַדֶּרֶת ), comp. أَدِرَ to have hernia (prob. to swell out); أَهْدَرُ inflated, swelling (of the belly). Kindred is הָדַר. Hence, to be great, magnificent, (see אַדִּיר ).

Niphil, to be made great, glorious, Part.; Exodus 15:11, and 6, יְמִינְךָ יְהֹוָה נֶאְדָּרִי בַּכֹּחַ “thy right hand, O God, has become great (i.e. is rendered illustrious) in power.” Yod in נֶאְדָּרִי is paragogic.

Hiphil, to render great, illustrious, Isaiah 42:21.

The derivative nouns see under Kal, also the compound words אֲדַרְגָֽזְרִין and אַדְרַמֶּלֶךְ.
