Vocabulary of the Greek NT

In Syll 802.41 (iii/B.C., from the Asclepieum of Epidauros) one of the cures effected is that of a παῖς ἄφωνος . For its application to a dumb idol in 1 Corinthians 12:2, cf. Kaibel 402.1, from Sebastopolis in Galatia, where the marble pillar is made to say Γαῖά με τίκεν (l. τίκτεν ) ἄφωνο [ν ] : now through the inscription it speaks. The word is MGr.
