Vocabulary of the Greek NT

Nägeli (p. 25) translates this verb by ";see, see clearly"; in the Pauline passage 2 Corinthians 4:4 εἰς τὸ μὴ αὐγάσαι τὸν φωτισμὸν τοῦ εὐαγγελίου τῆς δόξης τοῦ Χριστοῦ , holding that there is no reason why this old poetic sense (Soph. Ph. 217) should not have passed into the Κοινή . It should be noticed that in the LXX (Leviticus 13:25 al) the word has the wholly different meaning of ";appear white or bright."; For the compd. διαυγάζω see the horoscope P Lond 130.70 (i/ii A.D.) (= I. p. 135) διηύγαζεν .
