Asia proper, ἡ ἰδίως καλουμένῃ Ἀσία (Ptolemy, 5, 2), or proconsular Asia (often so called from the 16th century down; but correctly speaking it was apvoeincia consularis, although the ruler of it was vested with 'proconsular power.'
