ἀπαντάω,
impf. ἀπήντων Th. 4.127, Dor. 3 sg. ἀπάντη Bion Fr. 9.7: fut. ἀπαντήσω Arist. Rh.Al. 1432b35, Plb. 4.26.5, etc.; but better -ήσομαι Th. 4.77, 7.2 and 80, X. HG 1.6.3, Lys. 2.32, etc.: aor. ἀπήντησα E. Ph. 1392, Th. 2.20: pf. ἀπήντηκα Ar. Lys. 420, D. 18.15: — the Med., used in act. sense by Polyaen. 1.21.1 (impf.), al., is censured by Luc. Lex. 25; so also pf. ἀπήντημαι Plb. 2.37.6, D.H. 6.88, etc.

2. abs., happen, occur, turn out, Ar. Lys. 420, Pl. 358e, Arist. Pol. 1302a6, Top. 160a23, al.; τούτων ἀπαντώντων Hdt. 8.142: — Pass., Plb. 2.7.4, Phld. Herc. 1251.9.

The verb is very common of ";attendance"; before a magistrate. It is sufficient to cite P Petr III. 30.8 κ ̣αὶ φαμένη καταστήσεσθαι πρός [με ] [τ ]ῆ ̣ι. . . οὐκ ἀπήντη [σε ], ";though she said that she would appear against me on the . . . she did not present herself"; (Edd.), P Tor II. 13.15 (B.C. 147) ἀ ἐπὶ τὸ κριτήριον, P. Grenf I. 13.5 (B.C. 152 or 141) ἀπαντᾶν ἐπὶ σέ, P Oxy I. 59.8 ff. (A.D. 292) αἱρεθέντος Θεοδώρου ἀντὶ Ἀρείονος σκρείβα ἀπαντῆσαι ἐπὶ τὴν ήγεμονίαν καὶ προσεδρεῦσαι τῷ ἀχράντῳ αὐτοῦ δικαστηρί [ῳ ], ";Theodorus, who was recently chosen in place of Arion the scribe to proceed to his highness the prefect and attend his immaculate court"; (Edd.), P Cairo Preis 4.20 (A.D. 320) ἀπ ̣αντησάτωσαν [ἐπ ]ὶ τὸ ἡγ [ε ]μονικὸν δικαστήριον, and from the inscriptions, Syll 737.98 (ii/iii A.D.) εἰ δέ τις τῶν ἰοβάκχων, εἰδὼς ἐπὶ τοῦτο ἀγορὰν ὀφείλουσαν ἀχθῆναι, μὴ ἀπαντήσῃ, ἀποτεισάτω τῷ κοινῷ λεπτοῦ δρ (αχμὰς) ν ̄. P Lond 42.2 f. (B.C. 168) (= I. p. 30, Selections p. 9) εἰ ἐρρωμένωι τἄλλα κατὰ λόγον ἀπαντᾶι, ";if you are well, and things in general are going right,"; shows a common epistolary formula : cf. P Vat A.2 (B.C. 168) (= Witkowski.2, p. 64), P Par 45.2 f. (B.C. 153) al. In MGr the verb means ";answer.";
