συγκερ-άννῡμι or συγκερ-νύω, poet. συγκεράω Nic. Al. 321: — Pass., fut. συγκρᾱθήσομαι E. Ion 406: aor. 1 συνεκράθην [ᾱ ], Ion. -εκρήθην Hp. Vict. 1.32; also -εκεράσθην Pl. Lg. 889c: pf. συγκέκρᾱμαι (v. infr.): — mix, blend with, πολλὰ [ἑνί ] or εἰς ἕν, Id. Cra. 424d, Ti. 68d; λύπῃ τὴν ἡδονὴν ς . temper pleasure by a mixture of pain, Id. συγκεράννυμι (T WH συνκεραννυμι (cf. σύν, II. at the end)): 1 aorist συνεκέρασα; perfect passive participle συγκεκραμένος and in L T Tr WH συγκεκερασμενος (see κεράννυμι, at the beginning); from (Aeschylus, Sophocles), Herodotus down; to mix together, commingle; to unite: συνεκκερασεν τό σῶμα, caused the several parts to combine into an organic structure, which is the body (A. V. tempered the body together), 1 Corinthians 12:24; τί τίνι, to unite one thing to another: οὐκ ὠφέλησεν ... μή συγκεκραμένος (so R G T WH marginal reading, but L Tr WH text συγκεκραμένους) ... ἀκούσασιν, 'the word heard did not profit them, because it had not united itself by faith to (cf. Winers Grammar, § 31, 10; Buttmann, § 133, 13) them that heard,' i. e. because the hearers had not by their faith let it find its way into their minds and made it their own; (or, according to the text of L Tr WH (R. V.), 'because they had not been united by faith with them that heard'), Hebrews 4:2.

σύνδεσμος in its lit. sense of ";fastening"; (cf. Colossians 2:19) occurs in Aristeas 85 τοῦ θυρώματος δὲ καὶ τῶν περὶ αὐτὸ συνδέσμων κατὰ τὰς φλιάς, ";the great doorway and the fastenings which held it to the door-posts"; (Thackeray). For the metaph. usage in Colossians 3:14 Wetstein cites from Simplicius in Epictet. p. 208 a parallel expression of the Pythagoreans : καλῶς οἱ Πυθαγορεῖοι περισσῶς τῶν ἄλλων ἀρετῶν τὴν φιλίαν ἐτίμων καὶ σύνδεσμον αὐτὴν πασῶν τῶν ἀρετῶν ἔλεγον. It may be noted that for τελειότητα in Col l.c. D* Gdeg read ἑνότητα. Σύνδεσις is used of the ";continuation"; of a text on the following page in P Oxy XIV. 1737.23 (ii/iii A.D.).
