Vocabulary of the Greek NT

This favourite Lukan word is found with a variety of connotations—(I) ";throw together"; and hence ";discuss,"; ";confer"; I (sc. λόγους) c. dat., as in Luke 11:53 (v.l.), Acts 4:15 : P Fay 129.2 (iii/A.D.) Ἀπολλῶτι συνέβαλον καὶ ἐτάξατο πάντως καταβῆναι τῇ ἑνδεκάτῃ, ";I arranged with Apollos and he appointed for certain the eleventh for his coming down"; (Edd.), and OGIS 669.21 (i/A.D.) ἵν [α μηδ ]εὶς τῶι τοιούτωι συνβάλληι. (2) ";meet with,"; ";fall in with,"; as in Acts 20:14 : P Oxy XIV. 1668.4 (iii/A.D.) συνέβαλον τῶ Σκωρὺ χάριν τῶν ἐργαστηρίων, ";I had a meeting with Skoru respecting the workshops"; (Edd.), and ib. 1669.8 (iii/A.D.) ἐνετειλάμην σοι. . . συμβαλεῖν Πτολεμαίῳ τῷ σειτολόγῳ καὶ τὸν λο ̣γ ̣ο ̣ν ̣ πέμψαι αὐτοῦ, ";I bade you to meet Ptolemaeus the sitologus and send his account"; (Edd.).
